A human company.
In an AI world.
We are a Portland studio and technology consultancy.
Humans-in-the-loop. Always. We help businesses
integrate tech thoughtfully, produce locally
focused non-AI media, and fund
the humans behind the work.
Context is everything.
We use the right tools for each project. Sometimes human-in-the-loop AI. Sometimes no AI at all.
Creating Adaptive Capacity
The world is changing. Here's how we think about moving forward: carefully, and on purpose.
Hold On To Our Humanity
Technology should amplify what makes us human, not replace it. We build systems that preserve autonomy, creativity, and genuine connection.
No One Figures This Out Alone
The challenges of AI are collective. We share what we learn, collaborate openly, and trust that the best answers come from many perspectives.
Agency Over Fatalism
We act. We choose. We participate. Every implementation is a decision, and we choose to build with intention and care.
Now
Context Engineers and Artists
We hire context engineers for ethically-driven implementation of technology, including humans-in-the-loop AI. We hire artists for creative work that should stay human, with non-AI tools. Both based in Portland.
Someday
Housing, Parks, Transit, Public Space
The dream is to create a nonprofit that funds real, human-centered spaces that benefit everyone. We're not there. We may never be. But if this business thrives, the mission thrives.
Free Consulting for Portland Teams of Three or Fewer
If you're a Portland-based team of three people or fewer, consulting is free. Real working sessions, not a pitch. We help you figure out where AI fits, where it doesn't, and provide actionable advice on how to get started in a way that supports humans instead of replacing them.

We started Resonant Works to use technology to build a human-first future.
That's why we're exploring how to create new types of jobs here in Portland, while also supporting local professionals in non-AI roles. We're cultivating a new kind of work called context engineering. People who keep every AI workflow anchored to human judgment. As we grow, we're hiring context engineering roles in Portland and teaching the craft to the teams we work with.
We are ethically-driven and sustainability-conscious. We don't claim perfection. We prioritize locally run models when we can, use ethically sourced data, work with licensed commercial-ready tools, and stay current on fair use practices across everything we touch.
Human-in-the-Loop
AI Integration for Businesses
AI should support human work, not replace it.
Strategy
Roadmaps that fit your business, your values, and your actual team. No playbook copy-paste.
Implementation
We build the systems and train the people. Transparent. Testable. Human-checked.
Team Training
Your team learns the craft of context engineering: the real work of shaping what AI sees, decides, and produces. Not buzzwords. Not hype.
How We Use AI
Our commitments in practice, not just in principle.
Humans in the Loop. Always.
AI should support human work, not replace it. It should preserve choice, originality, creativity, and real connection.
Chosen Carefully
We prioritize locally run models when we can, use ethically sourced data, and stick to licensed, commercial-ready tools.
Context Engineering
We're building Context Engineer jobs in Portland: people who keep every AI workflow anchored to human judgment.
Hiring Local
When we grow, we grow here. Portland-first hiring, Portland-first community, Portland-first story.
Conscious, Not Perfect
We don't claim to have all the answers. We stay current on fair use, keep listening, and evolve our approach as we learn.
Locally Focused Media Production
Original Portland media showcasing our community's innovative spirit. We don't make “content” or “slop”. We make media by humans, for humans. Our Tasting Portland series highlights local businesses, and our I Love Portland series celebrates Portland.
We created iloveport.land, a Portland-based non-AI apparel brand built around work made only by human hands. Every design, including the logo, is created by our in-house Portland art team without any AI. We believe supporting local human-made work matters more than ever.

Key Risks of AI
Honest acknowledgment of what we're navigating together.
Environmental Impact
The energy cost of AI is real, and overall electricity demand is rising as adoption grows. Water is a separate issue: data center water use may be smaller than many heavy industries overall, but local impacts are still significant.
Autonomy
AI systems making decisions without meaningful human oversight. We believe every consequential choice needs a person in the loop.
Surveillance and Destructive Misuse
AI enabling mass surveillance, manipulation, or direct harm. Responsible access controls and ethical guardrails aren't optional.
Power Seizure
AI concentrating power in fewer hands. Democratizing access and knowledge is essential to prevent this.
Economic Disruption
Displacement without transition plans. We focus on creating new roles and upskilling, not just efficiency.
Impact on Artists
AI tools can be misused to rip off artists' work. While these models don't inherently store copies of training data, the potential for misuse is real. Protecting creative livelihoods requires vigilance and ethical standards.
Indirect Harms
Bias, misinformation, and erosion of trust. Transparency in how AI is used is the minimum standard.
Unknown Risks
We don't have all the answers, and new risks will emerge as this technology evolves. We're always open to feedback.
